About Us
The Hot Flushes is a female vocal quartet catering for all mood swings. Their wide repertoire includes show tunes and popular music from the 30s to the 70s. From poignant ballads in four-part harmony to swinging choreographed renditions of 60s girl group classics to toe-tapping hits of the 40s, the main aim is to entertain, wherever the place, whatever the occasion.
The group, comprising Angela Norris, Jan Rudelbach, Cerise de Gelder and Lynn Duguid, formed in January 2002 after singing together for some years in the Sandybeach Choir. Realising they were far too good for community singing (and the stage was getting way too crowded), they struck out on their own with nothing but a shared love of song, a passion for performance and the determination to have a really good time…oh, and a bit of talent thrown in, of course.
Since those humble beginnings they’ve performed at a range of venues and functions around Melbourne and interstate, including hotels, clubs and lodges, retirement villages, street festivals, aged care facilities, community centres and private parties. They have been guest vocalists with the Chelsea Concert Band and the Mordialloc Jazz Orchestra on more than one occasion, and are regularly invited to perform at citizenship ceremonies.
After providing entertainment at several Melbourne Cricket Club luncheons, The Hot Flushes were thrilled to launch their first CD Serendipity at the MCG Long Room in 2007 (available for purchase at $10 each or, if you mention this website, the very special price of two for $20!)
As their name suggests, The Hot Flushes are mature women singing songs that they themselves have grown up with, presented in a relaxed and fun-filled format. In an entertainment industry dominated by, and primarily catering for, people under 30 they are a breath of fresh air who will appeal to audiences of all ages.
Performance times, show content and fees are all negotiable but you’ll find that compared to many entertainers The Hot Flushes are very cheap…and they don’t charge much either.
So maybe they look like just the thing for your group, function or party. Maybe you have a hankering to swing along to the hits of The Seekers, Dusty Springfield, Abba, Petula Clark, The Carpenters, Glen Campbell or The Supremes sung by people old enough to remember the originals. Maybe you know all the words from all the songs in The Sound of Music, Fiddler On The Roof, My Fair Lady and Cats and you just have to hear them all in one show (or at least a good selection)…
